Levi's for the iPod gen

It's about time! Levi's iPod jeans with a purpose. I don't have an iPod, don't want one, just like the fact that Levi's Jeans Co. is getting with the times. I have a Pogo and I wonder if the Pogo, at roughly the same size as an iPod, will fit in this pocket? I sure hope so. If the Pogo fits, I will buy a pair of these pants. My one question at this time is: what about the earbud wire from the iPod to the ears?

The Fox network should be proud that their shows are so good as to make this disgusting list. If the Fox network suits were not so concerned, they would create promos acknowledging the placement of Family Guy, American Dad, and The War at Home on the PTC's list of least family-friendly shows. Like the Snuffed-Candle award given by the Skeptical Inquierer, the list of family-unfriendly shows from the PTC is appreciated so that I know what shows I should be watching. And how about American Idol on their other list, the one where they only have nine entries because they feel that there aren't 10 good shows on the air right now? What is up with that?

Concern by a brother

Exactly as expected, a brother makes his concerns known. Georg Ratzinger was not expecting his brother, Joseph, to be elected Pope, due to Joseph's age and health. I predict that we will see another papal election in 4 years and 5 months, iow, September 2009. Pope Benedict 16 will have traveled to only 33 countries during his time in office. That is my prediction.

AN AMERICAN JOURNALIST REFLECTS ON THE PASSING OF A POLISH POPE

CENTRAL VALLEY, CALIFORNIA (ANS) -- As a journalist who was raised in the Catholic tradition and, like many Catholic boys, entertained the idea of being a priest at one time, it's interesting to watch the way the world’s media has treated the death of Pope John-Paul II.

Even though we have our religious differences, I'm always in awe of the way the head of the Catholic Church is treated with such reverence in the mainstream media.

To be honest, there's something really heartwarming seeing men and women of all faiths, working for the major networks and news organizations, talking in such familiar and respectful terms, it's almost as if they were raised in the Catholic tradition, even though, in many cases, that is not the case.

Watching the Pope's declining years was painful. Many of us remember the strange news that a priest from Poland, of all places, had been elected to be Pope. We would later find out that his name emerged during the Papal Enclave as the cardinals tried over and over to reach a consensus on who should lead the world's one billion Roman Catholics.

We later found out he had worked behind the scenes for years. His jovial nature, extreme intellect, energetic persona and ability to speak many languages had made it possible for him to make friends among the hierarchy of the Church.

When more and more cardinals started putting his name into the voting hopper there was suddenly a groundswell of support.

History will likely treat this Pope well. Not only for his rise to the Vatican from the hidden depths of an underground seminary in Nazi-occupied Poland, to a priest who would rather ski than do anything else, to a world politician who, in many ways, was one of the main reasons that the Soviet empire fell.

We all remember his visits to the United States, his love of young people and his hopes for the future.

The big question now is, of course, who will follow him. In a time when secularism is on the rise, when the diversity of world religion confuses the issue, when the American church has been beset by embarrassing scandal and when the world's youth is reaching out for a new direction, the next Pope HAS to be a good one. Maybe when his name is announced we will be as surprised as we were when the gregarious priest from Poland was named to the papacy. If that is the case, hopefully the next Pope will not only follow in the footsteps of the last, but even outrun him in many ways. That would please me greatly.

I only hope that he is a Pope who understands the psyche of the American church; a Pope who is able to rule with a strong and unwavering hand, but who also knows that the church has to be held together and that continued good relations with all sectors of Christianity (and the world's other religions) is the only way the total Body of Christ will thrive as the world becomes more complex.

President Bush spoke for us all. So did Billy Graham. A great man has died. We pray for a remarkable successor.

Terri Schiavo: her right to live or die?
What is wrong with the Republicans? Why are they involving themselves in a personal matter? What is to be gained by forcing themselves upon a family like they are? Peggy Noonan is right, though wrong. The Repubs will pay a price, for interfering in a private family matter, for rushing through laws designed for one person, not for the community-at-large. This is a slippery slope and I don't like it!

To respond to the suggestion that Michael, Terri's husband, is playing god; well, so are Terri's parents and those who want to keep her alive. This argument is phony, and without merit.

Do I want Terri to die? Yes, yes, I do. She will be better off dead. Anyone in her situation would be better off deceased. I know that I would prefer to be dead, and not kept alive artificially. If I am unable to use my arms, legs, if I am unable to move around unencumbered, please kill me. I will sign any release absolving you of all liability, granting you immunity from prosecution, if you do the necessary deed.

You may think that I have a death wish. Nothing could be further from the truth, I just believe that if life requires artificial means for it to continue, than it isn't a life worth living.

Hillary the flip-flopper.
This story is important, but something I noticed while I read it was the title mistakenly given. At the beginning of the fourth paragraph, Mr. Healy left out a letter in Mrs. Clinton's proper title. Just a typo, I am sure. But, read by the wrong people, this omission could be construed as a bias. I consider it nothing more than a typo, as I am not a crazy conservative like some on the AM dial.

Why is Saddam Hussein on trial? Is it for the deaths of thousands supposedly with his blessing? Or, more likely, is it to cover-up America's great follies? After all, the main reason that we could take him out of power was because we helped Saddam retain the throne of leadership in the '80s and then turning our backs on him in the '90s. We allowed him to roll over his citizens with all means and power, and now we oppose it. America is the greatest country on this planet, absolutely, but on occasion we make some pretty big mistakes and errors that should not happen. Freedom to all!
